Board of Directors & Elections

The Austin Chapter of N.A.R.P.M.’s Board of Directors or Executive Committee consists of nine members of the local chapter whos core responsibilities are:
  1. Establishing and implementing an organization framework for the chapter.
  2. Establishing new or modifying existing operating rules that are not inconsistent with these bylaws, the bylaws of the national association or their intent.  Changes to the bylaws must be submitted to the board of directors of the national association for approval.
  3. Establishing annual chapter dues, application fees and special assessments.
  4. Establishing new committees and dissolving existing committees.

 

The nine board members and their responsibilities are as follows.

1. President – The president shall:
  • Be chief executive officer of the Chapter
  • Preside at all meetings of the Chapter.
  • Prepare an annual budget with the Treasurer in conjunction with the Board.
  • Act as an alternate signatory for funds withdrawn from the Chapter account(s).
  • Sign all legal documents.
  • Maintain the Chapter archives.
  • Undertake responsibility for such other activities as deemed appropriate by the committee.
  • Shall ensure the completion of all documentation required by the National Association.
  • Serve as a member of a National Association committee.
  • Serve a term of one year commencing with the beginning of the new calendar year.
  • Must be a Professional Member of the Chapter.
  • Must attend annual Board Leadership Training offered by the National Association of Residential Property Managers

 

2. President-Elect – The President-Elect Shall:
  • Act as an alternate signatory for funds to be withdrawn from the committee account(s).
  • Fulfill the responsibilities of the President during his/her absence.
  • Replace the president at the end of the fiscal year.
  • Automatically accede to the presidency during a calendar year when the presidency becomes vacant.
  • Undertake other activities as are deemed appropriate by the committee.
  • Serve a term of one year commencing with the beginning of the new calendar year.
  • Must be a Professional Member of the Chapter.
  • Notify all chapter members of upcoming meetings.
  • Coordinate speakers and lecturers that are relevant to the residential industry for chapter meetings.
  • Undertake responsibility for such other activities as deemed appropriate by the committee.
  • Oversee the submission of Chapter reports including Chapter Excellence submission.
  • Must be backup for attendance at annual Board Leadership Training offered by the National.
  • Association of Residential Property Managers if the President is unable to attend.

 

3. Communications Officer – The Communications Officer shall:
  • Act as the Chapter’s communications officer.
  • Notify all Chapter members of upcoming meetings including but not limited to:
    • The time, date and location of said meeting.
    • Chapter business to be conducted.
    • Guest lecturers who will be speaking.
    • Report said activities and information gleaned from guest lecturers to the editors of the National Association and Chapter newsletters.
  • Serve a term of one year commencing with the beginning of the new calendar year.
  • Undertake responsibility for such other activities as deemed appropriate by the Board.

 

4. Programs Officer – The Programs Officer shall:
  • Act as the Chapter meeting coordinator.
  • Coordinate speakers and lecturers that are relevant to the residential industry for Chapter meetings.
  • Undertake responsibility for such other activities as deemed appropriate by the Board.
  • Serve a term of one year commencing with the beginning of the new calendar year.
  • Must be a Professional Member of the Chapter.

 

5. Marketing Officer – The Marketing Officer shall:
  • Act as the Chapter Marketing coordinator.
  • Coordinate the recruiting of new professional members to NARPM® from the local board of Realtors with the assistance of the general members.
  • Coordinate the recruiting of new affiliate members with the assistance of the professional members.
  • Undertake responsibility for such other activities as deemed appropriate by the Board.

 

6. Secretary: The Secretary shall:
  • Maintain a current Chapter membership records to coincide with the national association’s membership database.
  • Record, maintain and distribute minutes of all regular and special meetings of the committee as appropriate.
  • Maintain a copy of the Chapter’s current Bylaws.
  • File all federal, state and local reports as needed.
  • Undertake responsibility for such other activities as deemed appropriate by the committee.
  • Serve a term of one year commencing with the beginning of the calendar year.
  • Must be a professional member of the Chapter.

 

7. Treasurer: The Treasurer shall:
  • Be a signatory for all funds withdrawn from Chapter account(s).
  • Prepare an annual budget with the President in conjunction with the Board.
  • Distribute annual renewal notices for Chapter dues and special assessments.
  • Deposit all funds into a federally insured financial institution.
  • Prepare a financial report for the committee upon request.
  • Prepare an end-of-fiscal year report for the Treasurer of the National Association.
  • File tax and other financial reports with the appropriate government agencies.
  • Undertake responsibility for such other activities as deemed appropriate by the committee.
  • Serve a term of one year commencing with the beginning of the calendar year.
  • Must be a Professional Member of the Chapter.

 

8. Past President: The Past President shall:
  • Serve as a voting member and advisor to the Board.
  • Shall serve as Chairman of the Nomination Committee
  • Undertake responsibilities as assigned by the President.
  • Serve a term of one year commencing with the beginning of the calendar year.

 

9. Chapter of Excellence Officer: The Chapter of Excellence Officer shall:
  • Plan, oversee, implement and promote activities as described in the NARPM® Chapter Excellence Award Checklist.
  • Strive to maximize the number of points achieved by the Austin Chapter of NARPM® by communicating and providing opportunities to members.
  • Report the progress, current point count and goal to the board of directors and the general membership at each respective meeting.
  • Undertake responsibility for such other activities as deemed appropriate by the committee.
  • Serve a term of one year commencing with the beginning of the calendar year.
  • Must be a Professional Member of the Chapter.

 


Nominations & Annual Elections

Every position, except President-Elect, is a One Year Term.  The President-Elect is elected for a two year term, first being elected as the President-Elect and then moving into the President position.

Nominations

To first be eligible for election a member must be nominated.  The nominating process starts during the month of August each year.  For a member to be nominated they must be a member in good standing with both the local and national association.  To nominate a fellow member, a member must notify the executive committee in writing of their choice.  The nominated member must consent in writing to the executive committee to accept the nomination.

Chapter Elections

Chapter elections occur annually in September, with nominations starting during August.  The election process is conducted during the month of September either at an in-person meeting or virtually.
